What’s New at the Vineyard

Parking Lot Red

WINE AND LABEL

Our 2008 Parking Lot Red wine is now for sale. It is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Syrah from the grapes that grow around our parking lot. The balance of the wine is Pinot Noir grown locally by John Simpson. We are selling it for $5 a glass and $15 a bottle. It goes great with any of the bold flavors of our Braised Short Ribs, Lamb Shank, or any of the pasta dishes. Of course, it is also great with our delicious burgers.

NEW MENU FOR SPRING

We have added three new items to our menu:

  • Lamb Chops marinated in Basila Farms olive oil
  • Rigatoni with sausages, fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce
  • Homemade Ravioli, stuffed with pork, chicken, beef and spinach, made right here at the Vineyard.

Of course, there’s a story behind the ravioli. I have known Phil and Melinda Scott for at least 20 years; they are great customers and friends. I knew Melinda once had a restaurant in Bakersfield, but knew nothing else. This past Christmas she gave us a box of ravioli and her meat sauce, which we ate for our Christmas Eve dinner.  They were delicious.  My father said they reminded him of the ravioli his grandmother made. The next time I saw the Scotts, I told her how much I enjoyed them. Melinda graciously offered to teach us how to make them. She spent a day with us in the kitchen, and shared not only her ravioli recipe and technique, but also her recipe for meat sauce.

The response has been great. So far everyone has loved them, and I think you will, too. Come in and try them.

MVA WINEMAKER’S DINNER

Join us on April 15th for a Winemaker’s Dinner with three Madera County wineries. We will be serving wines from Quady, Birdstone and Idle Hour. Here is the menu:

I wrote last time that the California Restaurant Association honored the Mariscotti Family with their Lifetime Achievement award. The ceremony was on March 1st at the Saroyan Theater. It was a great night, with lots of our friends in attendance. We had a great time visiting the 30 or so restaurants and wineries that had booths set up in the lobby.  Kopi from KMPH was the MC for the ceremony. He and the outstanding band made it a rocking, fun hour and a half, and we all had a great time. Thanks again to the CRA Fresno chapter, and thanks to all of our friends for coming down to support us.

RAY KRAUSE ON THE JEFFERSON HOUR

My friend Ray Krause of Westbrook Wine Farm just sent me the following notice; I can’t wait to hear the program: “On Sunday and Monday evenings, April 18th and 19th at 7 P.M., President Thomas Jefferson (The Jefferson Hour with Clay Jenkinson) will interview pioneering winegrower, Ray Krause of Westbrook Wine Farm in O’Neals. 

President Jefferson’s first love was agriculture and his passion was wine. His particular prejudice was for red Bordeaux and white Rhone blends. Imagine that!”
