What's New at the Vineyard

Cru Winemaker Dinner

Fig News

Bacon-Wrapped Figs are back on our menu. Our special summer appetizer is here for the next 2 months. We use Black Mission Figs from Kevin Herman’s Specialty Crop Company, wrap them in bacon, grill them and then serve with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar reduction. They are delicious and only available for a short time.

In other fig news, the Fig Festival will not be held in Fresno this year. In an effort to introduce more people to the great taste of figs, the California Fig Board is taking the Fig Festival to San Diego. The Fig Throw-down, a fig cooking competition between chefs, will be held in Fresno on Saturday August 10th at The Vineyard Farmer’s Market at Shaw and Blackstone. Chef Jason will be there representing us with his latest creation, Candied Figs three ways. I feel pretty confident about our chances of winning. At last year’s Fig Fest we won 2 of the 4 categories.

Tiger Figs are being harvested now. A new variety of fig they have a raspberry jam flavor and colored interior that contrasts with the colorful exterior. Look for them.

National Lasagna Day

Is Monday July 29th. Watch our lasagna king Horacio Fierros make lasagna on TV 24 Morning show. When Channel 24 wanted to feature lasagna on National Lasagna Day, they came to us. Horacio has made a few thousand trays of lasagna in the 14 years he has worked here. Watch him on TV 24 Monday the 29th as he shows how we make our traditional meat lasagna and our summer vegetable lasagna.

Wine Tasting

Join us, other restaurants and wineries for Taste of Vino, a benefit for the Make-A-Wish foundation, August 4th at Save Mart Center from 1 to 5pm.  Here is the web site.

Harris Ranch Beef

For the past 4 months we have been serving Harris Ranch Choice Beef exclusively. Harris takes extra care and pride in the processing, butchering and aging of their beef. We feel there is a noticeable difference between Harris Ranch Choice beef and the other name brand Choice beef we were using. The biggest difference is consistency. Both the flavor and tenderness are better, with less variation from strip to strip.

Parking Lot Red

The 2012 vintage of our estate grown wine, Parking Lot Red, is being bottled this week at San Joaquin Wine Company. After a resting period of a few weeks we’ll be serving it in the restaurant. The wine is soft and full with ripe fruit flavors. This year’s vintage is almost ready for harvest. Our grapes ripen earlier than others because they are surrounded by the parking lot of the restaurant. Here is a picture of the Nero d’Avola grapes that will make up half of this year’s blend.
