Dove Season

Open for Sunday Family Dinner August 31

August 31 is the day before Dove season opens. It’s always a busy night here at the restaurant, as hunters and families gather for dinner the day before the season opener. Realizing that and accommodating some of our good customers, we will be open Sunday night, August 31, 2014, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. But, don’t worry, you don’t have to be a hunter to come in. We will serve a special dinner that night. An Italian dinner, I think Dove Season is an Italian holiday. It will start with an Antipasto tray for the table, then ravioli. For the main course you will have a choice of Eggplant Parmesan, Mary’s Chicken Breast with lemons, capers, artichokes, Wine Braised Beef or our Pork Loin wrapped with bacon and stuffed with figs. With a dessert, this special meal will cost you $25 not including beverages, tax or tip. You can make a reservation on line or call us 559-674-0923, but you don’t have to have a reservation. Hope to see you then.

California Always In Season

Food and Wine Magazine

In June we were approached by the California Fig Advisory Board and Food and Wine Magazine to take part in a video and magazine promotion for California Ag Board. The project is called “California, Always in Season”. The idea is to go to different places in the state, highlight the food grown there. Then show a local restaurant using the locally-grown products. For the central valley they chose our good friend Kevin Herman and his Specialty Crop Company. Kevin farms over 4000 acres of fresh and dried figs.
The video and magazine shooting and production took a crew of 25 at least 20 hours to produce. The first day they filmed Kevin on one of his farms then playing bocce and drinking wine at another of his farms. The second day the crew came to the restaurant @ 7 and moved in lights, cameras, recording instruments, etc, etc. Enough to fill our kitchen while they filmed Chef Jason, Ian and Jessica making a Fig Pizza, Bacon-Wrapped Figs and a Fig and Almond Cheesecake. You can see the finished product in this month’s Food and Wine Magazine,  or here. You can view the video here (password: coup).

Christmas Parties

Christmas Parties

Now is a good time to plan your Holiday parties with us. We can make custom menus and events for your Christmas party or any type of event. We do special parties for all types of reasons; political fundraisers, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, funerals and who knows what else. We prepare set served dinners and lunches, buffets, and hors d oeuvre receptions. The hors d oeuvre reception is becoming more and more popular. We have a menu of over fifty different hors d oeuvre trays for you to choose from. We can also prepare the trays for your event at your home or business.

Congratulations

to Jon Basila for receiving the Madera Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award. Jon is a builder, farmer, an active concerned citizen, hiking partner, relative and makes our olive oil.

Stay in touch

with us on Facebook, where our social media manager Chasity Lovell posts lunch specials, dinner specials and special events. Chasity also monitors our online presence. It is fascinating to see how we are perceived in the different sites. The comments vary from site to site. Reviews on Trip Advisor are constantly high and positive. Reviews on Yelp are mostly very good, but occasionally they are more negative. Yelp also has the highest number of odd remarks. Google reviews are somewhere in the middle. I guess each site attracts a different type of user.

Thank you for your business and support.
