TAKE the shuttle. Don’t drink and drive this New Year’s Eve. The Vineyard, Casey’s Iron Horse Saloon, Backstreet Bar and Burrito King are teaming up with First Transit to offer a shuttle service within the city limits of Madera on New Year’s Eve. For $10 the shuttle will pick you up at home and deliver you to your destination. When you are ready to go home they will take you back. Relax and don’t worry. Let First Transit bring you here this year.

WINE ART after the New Year come in and see our incredible Vineyard bottle created by Steve King. Steve is a gifted welder, but who would have thought he was such a creative artist as well. His bottle will be ready and on display after the 2nd.

Nero D'AvolaGRAPES

We are changing some of our vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines have been removed and we are replanting them with a variety called Nero d’Avola. Nero d’Avola is a Sicilian red grape that thrives in a hot, dry climate much like Madera. Our thinking is it may produce the same spicy, racy wine here. We’ll see in a couple of years.

We haven’t had a winemaker dinner for a while and I think we’ll do more this year. The first one we have lined up is Thursday January 22nd at 6:30 The winemaker is my friend and Madera native Antonio Pasos. Antonio is the owner of Pasos Vineyards in Lodi. He sources his grapes from the Lodi area and from vineyards his father owns here in Madera. One of his most interesting red wines is a variety called Tannat. It is a deep, dark, rich wine with a unique big flavor. I think he is the only winemaker in California to make a varietal wine from this grape. In the southwest of France it is made into a wine called Madrian. Madrian is thought to have properties that contribute to a long life. We will offer a dinner to accompany Antonio’s unique and tasty wines. This dinner is limited to 50 people and will cost $45 a person. That includes the 4-5 wines and your dinner. Call us at 674-0923 for reservations.

HAPPY New Year!

Let’s hope 2009 brings peace and prosperity.
