What’s New at the Vineyard

My family and the staff at the restaurant want to thank you for the many donations, flowers, prayers, cards and expressions of condolence and sympathy. Helen’s passing leaves a big hole in our lives and many of yours as well. We have been overwhelmed with the stories of how she touched people, some with just a smile and a nod hello, others with long-time friendship. She was gracious and dignified as so many of you have said. She was also full of life, hospitality and fun. We hope her spirit of warmth will be here as long as The Vineyard is.

VALENTINE’S DAYValentine Day Cake

We Celebrate Valentine’s Day next Saturday the 14th. We are still taking reservations for Friday and Saturday nights. Our number is 674-0923. We will be serving a menu of the most popular items and a steak and lobster for two. In the past we have served this dish with steaks and a 1 pound plus Australian lobster tail. In keeping with the economic times Hector has found some much more reasonably priced spiney lobsters. He is going to stuff the body with a seafood mixture and we will be able to offer this steak and lobster dinner for two, with a dessert for $62.

OPEN THAT BOTTLE NIGHT FEBRUARY 28thWine Pour

We all have a bottle or two we are saving for a “special” occasion. Too often there never is an occasion special enough so the bottle never gets drank. Determined to end this tremendous waste of wine the wine editors of the Wall Street Journal came up with “Open That Bottle Night” Their idea is that OTB night is as special enough and a great reason to drink those saved bottles. In that spirit we will have an OTB night table. As we have the past two years we’ll save a table in the back for anyone who wants to set down share a meal and that special bottle with others. There is no set menu for this and no charge, other than for what you order. There is no set time either, but last year most people showed up around 6:30.

WINEMAKER DINNER

Mike Blaylock is long-time winemaker and creative force at Quady winery. He is certainly one of the most eloquent and entertaining winemakers there is anywhere. He will be here on March 19th and he will be bringing some wines. Who knows what Mike will bring, we only know it will be good. And we know he will tell Hector in time to pair a delicious meal with whatever interesting wines Mike brings. Price for the dinner will be $45 a person. This includes wine, food, tax and gratuity.

COOKING CLASS

On Feburary 4th we held a Madera Adult School food and wine class here. Chef Hector demonstrated, live, how he makes Chicken Paella and his Iron Chef winning Beef Tenderloin with cracked black pepper. We paired that with 3 local wines; Carmichael Grigio e Blanco, Fasi Crest Syrah and Ficklin Port. We hope to do this with the Adult School again so look for their catalog to see when.
