What's New at the Vineyard

Pumpkin Ravioli is Back

Our annual Autumn special is back! We make it here and it is available for lunch and dinner. You can see our lunch and dinner menus on the website. Of course, in December we will be serving Cioppino Our version of the California-Italian fishermen’s stew that we serve every December. It is a half Dungeness crab with fish, shrimp and clams in a red wine and tomato broth.

Cioppino in December is a long tradition here, as is pumpkin ravioli and many other items on our menu. We try to balance traditional favorites with new and exciting dishes that combine classic ideas with modern tastes and techniques. An example is Chef Ian’s Sriracha Maple Fried Chicken. It is a crispy fried naturally raised chicken breast drizzled with sweet and spicy sriracha maple dressing over beer battered fries. A version of classic fried chicken but with a new twist. Another example of how we try to keep the menu evolving while keeping great, traditional flavors.

Christmas and Year-End Parties

We still have the banquet room available for some dates (mostly week days) in December. But many companies prefer having their parties here on week nights or even in January. They find there are fewer conflicts with other events for one reason. Call or email info@vineyardrestaurant for more information. And remember us for all your events; showers, weddings and rehearsal dinners. Memorial receptions and just about anything. Here is a quote from a chef and author that we like. “Nothing happened in our homes and in our lives -No one was born, no one died, no accomplishment was uncelebrated. And all occasions involved food and drink. We can help you mark the events and accomplishments in your life.

Berenda Store

December 17 will be our 39th Anniversary

Here is a little of our history -- The Vineyard Restaurant was started in 1977 by Robert and Helen Mariscotti.  The Mariscotti family has been in the restaurant business in the Madera area since the early 1900's. The family owned and operated The Berenda Ranch Restaurant, a popular stop for travelers and locals, on the old 99 north of Madera. The Berenda Ranch Restaurant evolved from a grocery store to a small bar, to a café and finally to a full-scale 24-hour restaurant and gas station which thrived for years until torn down for freeway expansion in the early 1970's.

In 1976 Robert and Helen opened The Vineyard in the present location at the junction of Highway 99 and Highway 145 on the southern edge of Madera. Robert Mariscotti designed the distinctive winery style building, with its landmark brick tower. Originally the Vineyard was intended to be a 24-hour upscale coffee shop, but that style of restaurant had become less popular over the years. Keeping with changing trends, the family, joined by son Christopher in 1985, added a bar to the building and refocused the concept to serving only lunch and dinner. The Vineyard has evolved to a casual dinner house that serves "wine country style" food influenced by the family's Italian heritage.

The Vineyard is located in the center of the San Joaquin Valley and is a popular meeting spot for families and business travelers as well as for the local farmers, wine makers and agri-business community. The restaurant and bar are popular places for the people of Madera and the surrounding communities to come for dinner and banquets.

The restaurant takes pride in maintaining the traditional style of food preparation that has its roots in the restaurants of years ago. The soups, salad dressings and sauces are all made on premises, and we age and cut all of our U.S.D.A. Choice steaks. In 1998 we began baking our bread and continue to do that as well as make all the desserts we sell. Most of our produce is grown locally, with the farmers delivering it themselves, or we go out to the farms or the farmer’s markets to make sure we have the freshest produce available.

The wine list is interesting, well-priced and offers a variety of local wines along with other wines from California. The Vineyard was picked by "The Wine Spectator" as one of the best restaurants in the San Joaquin Valley.

We take pride in our food, our service and our ability to respond to the changing needs of our dynamic market. We will continue to evolve and grow with Madera and the San Joaquin Valley.

Closed Thanksgiving Day and Closed for lunch on Friday Nov 25th

Of course, we are closed on Thanksgiving Day so that we may spend time with our families. We will be closed for lunch the next day, Friday Nov. 25, and reopen for dinner that night.

We all have much to be thankful for.
We are thankful for your business and friendship.
