Heritage Turkey Dinner

Join us Wednesday Oct 25th for a pre-holiday turkey feast with locally grown heritage turkeys. These turkeys, raised by Mary and Ric Pitman, are old breeds of turkey that have fallen out of fashion in favor of faster growing breeds. They have more flavor than the common store bought variety. The dinner is $30 a person.  The price includes the local wines we will pour. A portion of the proceeds will go to Slow Food Madera. We are making every effort to make this a “100 mile meal” meaning that everything in the meal comes from within 100 miles of where it is eaten. Other than the salt, pepper, coffee and flour we use to bake our bread we are confident that all the food and wine for this dinner will come from farms, ranches and dairies in Madera and Fresno counties.

Dr. Maynard will be playing piano in the bar on Thursday night Oct 26th.

2006 Crush

We harvested and crushed our wine grapes on September 16th. The grapes that surround the parking lot are Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.  Heavy crop thinning and deficient irrigation techniques yielded grapes with rich, concentrated flavors. The blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Syrah was crushed using traditional low-impact methods.

The grapes were cold fermented and then pressed in our 100 year old grape press for full extraction. It is now aging in oak barrels and developing very well.

Fall Menu

We have changed our menu to reflect the changing season. We are now serving Fall favorites such as Pumpkin Ravioli with pine nuts and cream sauce, Roasted Rack of Venison and Pork Loin stuffed with dried figs and Ficklin Port sauce. We invite you to come and enjoy.

Wine List

As I wrote earlier this year we visited Walla Walla Washington and tasted some outstanding wines there. In addition to those wines I have added several other wines to our list. It now has over 70 selections and includes a full selection of Madera County wines. My goal is to sell wine. We have, what I feel, are reasonable markups on the bottles. If you compare our wine prices to other restaurants I think you’ll find our prices are at least 20% less. I am also happy to sell bottles and cases of wine. If you would like a special case please talk to me. I deal with several brokers and wholesalers and so have access to many wines. Because we buy in bulk, I often get very good deals on cases that I’m able to pass on to you.

Wine Trail Weekend

Speaking of wines, Nov 11th & 12th   is the Madera Vintners’ Association’s next Wine Trail.  For more information check out their website  www.maderavintners.com/holiday.html. Come here for dinner Saturday evening after you visit the Wine Trail.

Special Events

We are honored to be part of special events in our guest’s lives. Birthdays, weddings even funerals, but it isn’t too often we have a 76th wedding anniversary.  On October 18, 2006 John and Hazel Sordi celebrated their 76th anniversary at The Vineyard. Congratulations.

As always we appreciate your business.
