Mother's Day

We will be open for Mother’s Day Dinner from 2 until 7. Yes, we are normally closed on Sundays, but we will be open May 14th for Mother’s Day. We’ll be serving a special menu, with Prime Rib, Roasted Rack of Lamb, slow cooked Prime Rib, Pork Loin stuffed with figs, and fresh Salmon as well as special entrée salads, pastas, chicken and more.  Reservations are suggested.  Call 559-674-0923 today.

Winemaker's Dinner

Mariposa Wine CompanyMadera’s newest winery is a hit. The Mariposa Wine Company, operating in Berenda, 7 miles north of Madera at Highway 99 and Ave 20 1/2. The winemaker, Michael Levin has an impressive background of making fine wines, and connections to excellent grapes to work with. He works magic with his combinations of grapes, and his pinot noirs are killer. The Vineyard catered the grand opening party for their new tasting room/offices. Our Winemaker’s dinner here on the 25th will recreate that. We will taste Michael’s sauvignon blanc blend, his French style chardonnay with just a little oak, a Rhone blend, a zinfandel and an outstanding pinot noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands. In my humble opinion some of the best pinots in California come from the Santa Lucia Highlands.  You can make reservations for this dinner now. It will be Thursday May 25th beginning at 6:00. Dinner and the wines cost $55 a person. Call now to make reservations as we are limited to 50 guests.

I mentioned catering in the previous paragraph. We don’t do very much catering, but we were happy to cater the party in Berenda. Why? Because the Mariscotti family has a long history in Berenda.  My grandparents moved there in 1918 or 19. My grandparents and parents owned and operated The Berenda Ranch Restaurant for 80 years. My father was born there in a house that stood until 10 years ago. The 2 room school house where he went to school is still there, visible from Highway 99.

Berenda was almost the county seat of Madera County when it split off of Fresno County. It lost the election by 1 vote, according to my grandfather or by several hundred votes according to Bill Coate, Madera County’s leading historian. At any rate Berenda was a thriving railroad and farming community until the 1940’s when it began its decline. We are excited to be a small part of Berenda’s resurrection.

New Menu

We will be starting our spring/summer menus at the end of April. We are so lucky here to have such incredible produce at our door step. We try to feature as much of this bounty as we can. Including our appetizer of fresh Mission Figs wrapped with bacon, grilled and served with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Figs are not always available, even to us with the best fig connection in the world as our supplier. So when we have them, enjoy!

New Table Tops

Table Tops

Take a look at our new table tops. We found a retired boat builder/woodworker who lives in Bass Lake and does beautiful work. Don Blevins is making these gorgeous table tops for us by hand. We have had many compliments on his work. We hope you like them.
