What’s New at the Vineyard

Joel the bartender has worked here for over 7 years. He has perfected several drinks, but his masterpiece is the Lemon Drop. He makes dozens every night. One lady comes from Fresno every month to have one or two.  According to her, Joel makes a Lemon Drop better than anyone outside of New Orleans. If you can’t make it in, and want to try to make one at home, here is the recipe.

LEMON DROP

  • 1 tsp of sugar
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • ½ oz Triple Sec
  • 2 oz Absolut Citron vodka
  • 3 oz Sweet and Sour
  • Shake hard for 30 seconds and strain in martini glass with a sugar rim

Madera means wood in Spanish. It’s the name of our growing town and home to The Vineyard. I have seen the word Madera used in some interesting ways in my recent travels and want to share my observations with you. I don’t know if you are familiar with the Klimpton Group, but they develop and operate very high-end boutique hotels in major cities.  One of their newest hotels is called the “Hotel Madera”. It is a chic and expensive hotel in Washington DC. The Toll Brothers (the nation’s largest home builder) latest housing development in Las Vegas is a private planned community of houses that start at $700,000. It is called “Madera at Mountain’s Edge”. Here are two very successful and very savvy companies that think the name Madera has positive connotations and will benefit their business.  Perhaps those of us who live here should do the same.
